An uncommon river turtle — nearly identical to the living Central American Dermatemys mawii.

The Dermatemydidae family has only one living species, Dermatemys mawii — a nocturnal aquatic turtle that inhabits tropical freshwater systems in Central America and southern Mexico and feeds primarily on aquatic vegetation.

B. wyomingensis specimens are uncommon fossils in the FBM. Three specimens have been identified: one adult and two juveniles. Scientists find B. wyomingensis nearly identical to D. mawii.
