The largest Green River Formation gar species.

Seven living gar species are found in freshwaters of North America, Central America, and Cuba. Of the four Fossil Lake gar species, all but one are very similar to modern gars.

Atractosteus atrox is the largest of the Green River Formation gar species, reaching up to 6 feet long. Atractosteus atrox is not on display at Fossil Butte National Monument.
