The earliest known frogmouth — found only in nearshore quarries so far.

Frogmouths are so called because of their large, flat bills. They catch insects and small vertebrates and are nocturnal. Living relatives are found in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, India, and Australia.

The FBM species, F. platyrhamphus, is the earliest known species of frogmouth. It has only been found in nearshore quarries.
